What is “Forever – A look at the structure of a forever family after divorce” about?
When people get married and have children they often say that they will be together forever. But what happens when a forever family goes through a divorce? This book addresses what that forever family structure looks like after a divorce. Each page of text is paired with a blank page so that families can draw (or tape in pictures of) their own feelings and family structure for a more personal experience. Children have a need to know that they are still connected to both parents, even when their parents are no longer joined by marriage.
This is a secular book that can be helpful to families of many different backgrounds.
Why this book is important:
The first book I wrote was “Eternal: A look at the structure of an eternal family after divorce.” It was geared toward people who attend The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We would go to church and sing songs about families being together forever and my children would ask if we would still be together forever since our family was divorced. It broke my heart. I wrote “Eternal” to help them understand that they would always be connected to their family. After talking with some friends, who do not attend our church, I realized there was a large secular need for a book like this. I sat down with “Eternal” to redo some of the illustrations and rewrite parts of it. The result is this beautiful book that I hope will help encourage children in forever families of all kinds of backgrounds to know that they are still joined to all of their family members even after divorce. The paperback version of this book is designed like a sketchpad to give you room to draw or tape in pictures of your feelings and family structure for a unique and personal reading experience.
